Newcastle Sunsets

"Australia"

i'm trying to take my time;
not too live too fast.
doing what i can to make it last;
catchn' some waves, drinkn' some beers,
singn' some songs, embracing the tears.
living it up, mixing it up every moment of everyday;
sydney, surfers, new zealand, bluesfest at byron bay.
scuba diving and skydiving in the great barrier reef;
munchn' on some kangaroo and crocodile pizza, high quality australian beef.
its been a long journey, taking one step at a time;
kickn' it on the wharf with a corona and little bit of lime.
relaxin' on the beach with some fish and chips,
enjoying the waves, their sounds and their rips.
spotting the southern cross just past hi tide;
day dreaming back to the beginning, damn its been a ride.
chillin' for another hour, i reckon its a full moon;
trying to put together how its almost the month of june.
soaking up some morning rays, finishing off my aussie tan,
taking my last sips of jim beam and coke out of a can;
before i know it i'll be home in lg...
back where it all began.

New Zealand: when dreams become reality

Newcastle Local

Dressed in black from head to toe,
complimented by a dirty, gray beard that comes down to his belly;
I see him on a daily basis, not your average joe,
at the train station, in hunter mall and at the southern cross deli.
So dark and dreary inside and out,
when he lifts his shoe, the sole of his foot is bare.
A Newcastle local hobo without a doubt,
he sat down bench side as I tried not to stare.
The stench of his jumper was rubbish and foul.
Not once have I seen him dressed otherwise;
holding a pack of smokes and a constant pout, I know this guy's not healthy;
but miserable, drunk and living in lies.
A constant walking reminder,
to live everyday as if it were you're last,
to learn like you live forever,
because life happens once and I promise it goes fast!

only in Australia...

11.do you wear a sundress to class in 70 degree weather and your classmates think you're crazy and constantly ask you if you're freezing!

12.do you try on a pair of sweatpants in a surf shop until you realize they are 90 bucks and the guy says he'll give them to ya for half price.

Australia:
1) No one, literally no one says "God bless you" after someone sneezes. I said it to a guy in my Film, Media and Culture class, and he just stared at me. At first I thought he didn't hear me but then when I said it to someone else in the grocery store, they looked at me weird, too.

2) When it is 75 degrees out, it is cold. At least that is what the Australians think. Our neighbor came out when me and my roommates were laying out on our deck and yelled up to us that we should be wearing coats. We all looked at him, and proceeded to tell him that we think 50 degrees is warm in the States, especially when you're from the MIDWEST..

3) Australia has the most amazing sunsets.

4) Without doing the exchange rate, it costs 35 dollars for a 24 pack of pop. Needless to say, I don't drink pop anymore.

5) I know I am in Australia when a pepper is ONLY referred to as Capsicum.

6) I've started to say "No Worries" more than I ever have..

7) You know you're not in America when you do not need a license or any identification when boarding an airplane traveling across the country.

8)The Aussies like to do construction late at night. And by late at night, I mean 12:30 a.m. right outside my bedroom window.

9) The train waits for no one. And that is a problem when class is at 11:00 am and the next train to campus is not until 11:04 am. Thank God for public transportation via the 201 bus.

10) more to come..
